Food in February: World Nutella Day!

World Nutella Day 2010

a malaysian abroad’s Food in February presents World Nutella Day!

Having spent many winters in Switzerland when I was young, you would think my first memory of Nutella would be partaking of its hazelnutty chocolatey goodness on a slice of tresse bread or a piece of Zwieback in the comfort of my grandparents kitchen.

Nope!

Instead I have vivid memories of the St Mary’s school canteen, buying the small snack size single serving of Nutella for 20 sen or so.  I do not recall if it came with its own little spoon — probably, because I don’t remember helping myself to the contents with my fingers… then again, the hazelnutty chocolatey goodness might have wiped out other memories of those moments, LoL!

For my first ever participation in World Nutella Day (the brainchild of the ladies behind Ms Adventures in Italy and Bleeding Espresso, in case you were wondering), I’d like to share my most recent encounter with this delicious hazlenut chocolate spread; as an accompaniment to my Banana Nut Spice Bread!

Banana Spice Bread and Nutella - 1

The banana nut spice bread was a first time for me: I’ve made a few banana breads, with or without nuts and/or chocolate chips, but this time around I wanted to jazz it up a bit, and added ground cinnamon and allspice in addition to the walnuts I happened to have on hand.  I’d actually forgotten about adding chocolate chips, so spreading Nutella on a slice of this bread came naturally…

It was yummy.
